Lewis Brooks letter to the Rector and Board of Visitors [manuscript], 1876 Apr 14.

Brooks presents to the Board through his agent, Henry A. Ward, $45,000 in bonds from the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. The bonds are to be used to "provide a suitable building for a cabinet of natural science ... and to procure ... the necessary materials for such cabinet ...."
